history

The library in the German Linoleum Works (DLW)

Shortly before and during the Second World War , a “public library” run by librarians was first mentioned in the rooms of the Deutsche Linoleum-Werke . It was financed by donations and gifts as well as by municipal funds.

The library on Pfarrstrasse

In the post-war period there was only one private library. Only when sales rooms in the arcade building on Pfarrstraße became vacant could they be converted into the new city library in 1964/65. After the municipal council had approved the construction of a city library, the library was officially opened on March 20, 1965.

The library in the current rooms

Since the rooms in the Pfarrstrasse became too small due to the steadily growing stock and the increasing number of readers, they began to look for new rooms. The “Unteres Tor” renovation project was an obvious choice. This made it possible to set up a “functional city library including a communicative area” and to expand the inventory. On January 17, 1977 the city library was inaugurated in the new rooms. The city library has been called Otto-Rombach-Bücherei since 1984.

In 2012 the Otto-Rombach-Bücherei was extensively modernized and adapted to the needs of the time.

Bissingen branch

A community library has existed in the formerly independent community of Bissingen for almost 80 years. First in a private apartment, later in today's Schiller School. In 1968 the new construction of the Bissingen town hall made it possible to reopen the library on 140 m².

Today the library with its 12,000 media is aimed particularly at families. One focus of the offer is on media for children: in addition to picture books, novels and non-fiction books, the library also offers games, audio books, DVDs and magazines for children.

But adults will also find what they are looking for: a current range of novels is supplemented by non-fiction books, DVDs and audio books. There are also 12 magazines, from " Chip " to " Landlust ", available for loan.

An Internet PC is also available, which is also equipped with Office applications. This offer is supplemented by events for children: reading and handicraft lessons as well as children's theater invite you to get to know the library from a different perspective.
