The grammar schools I and II in Ellental (also called Ellentalgymnasien or incorrectly called Ellentalgymnasium ) are state grammar schools in Bietigheim-Bissingen with around 1500 students and around 125 teachers. De jure the Ellentalgymnasien are two grammar schools, in fact only one grammar school. This makes the Ellentalgymnasien the only dual high school in Baden-Württemberg .

history

In 1479, Hans Flechsner donated “the old school house near the Stadtkirch” (the Latin school was first mentioned in a document). Sebastian Hornmold promoted this Latin school in the 16th century in the spirit of humanism and Reformation. In 1557 the city bought two buildings in Schulgäßchen, which remained the headquarters of the Latin school for almost 400 years. In 1826 a more contemporary-oriented “Real-life department” was attached to the Latin School. In 1908 the Latin school became a secondary school. In 1927, the 6th grade with a final examination (“Mittlere Reife”) was introduced. In 1953, the new school building in the Aurain district was inaugurated and expanded into a nine-class grammar school there.

In 1956, the first class of high school graduates in the city passed their final exams. In 1971 the move to the new school building in Ellental (1st construction phase) took place, as the rooms in the Aurain no longer offered sufficient space. In 1973 the grammar school was divided into grammar school I and grammar school II with two separate school administrators, but in very close organizational, spatial and personal cooperation.

In 1979 the city celebrated the 500th anniversary of the Bietigheim Latin School. In 1982 the double grammar school moved into an extension (“extension”) due to a lack of space and increasing numbers of registrations. In 1983 a sports hall was opened in Ellental. The Ellental Gymnasien can hold sports lessons in two sports halls (the “Halle am Viadukt” and the “Ellentalhalle”). In 2013 the school celebrated "40 years of Ellental Gymnasien", for which a ceremony was held and a separate film was made by mediaAG of the Gymnasien.

School partnerships

The above-mentioned high schools offer student exchanges with two colleges for grade 8 and with the Lycée Polyvalent Christoph-Colomb for grade 10 from the twin town of Sucy-en-Brie . There is also an exchange program with Collingwood School in the partner community Surrey Heath . In the Hungarian twin town of Szeksàrd , the grammar schools in grade 9 maintain an exchange with the local grammar school. In grade 10, the Ellentalgymnasien offer a student exchange with the partner school in Aranjuez (Spain). From 1989 to 2010 there was also an exchange with the Eynot Yarden High School in the Upper Galilee , the partner region of the Ludwigsburg district . However, this student exchange could no longer be continued by the Ellentalgymnasien because the political climate and the requirements for it had changed significantly in Israel .

Cooperations

The school library is a non-public branch of the Otto Rombach library . The pupils can use the library as a lounge during the breaks and they can do research there for presentations and homework. The library's media offerings are included in the lessons. A spiral curriculum is being developed in cooperation between the library management and the teaching staff. The grammar schools in Ellental have signed a cooperation agreement with the Pedagogical Cultural Center for the Former Synagogue Freudental. The pupils in grades 9 - J2 take part in workshops at the PKC and, in cooperation with the PKC, visit memorials of National Socialism in the region. A seminar course "Remembrance in the Ludwigsburg district / in the Stuttgart region" takes place in the year.
