Otto Lohmann

Otto Löhmann (born June 19, 1908 in Ulm , † November 27, 1978 in Marburg ) was a German librarian.

Life

Löhmann studied Romance languages, English and philosophy in Halle (Saale) , where he also received his doctorate in 1935 and passed the state examination in 1936. In 1936 he started as a trainee at the State and University Library in Königsberg , and in 1938 he moved to the State Library in Berlin , where he passed his specialist examination. In the same year he became a librarian in the library of the Reich Association of German Officials , and in 1942 he moved back to the Berlin State Library. From 1940 onwards he was used as a soldier in the Second World War, was taken prisoner and did not return to Germany until 1953. He was now able to continue his library career in the West German Library in Marburg, the forerunner of the State Library in West Berlin. There he took over the acquisitions department in 1955 and followed up on the acquisitions policy of the former state library. In 1965 he was appointed director, which he remained until his retirement in 1973.
