Otto FE Mühlbock (* 1906 ; † June 18, 1979 ) was a Dutch cancer researcher and endocrinologist of German descent .

Mühlbock received his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Berlin in 1927 and again in medicine (gynecology, endocrinology) in 1933. In 1934 he moved to the Netherlands, where he worked for E. Laqueur at the Pharmacological Laboratory of the University of Amsterdam . During the Second World War he had to go into hiding and after the war he was at the Dutch Cancer Research Institute, to which he was a member for 33 years, from 1948 as head of the biology department. In 1958 he became a professor of experimental oncology at the University of Amsterdam.

He dealt in particular with the induction of tumors in mice by manipulating the hormonal balance and tumor viruses such as the MTV (Mammary Tumor Virus) in mice, an RNA virus. He developed special mouse strains that he could use to study breast cancer in mice caused by MTV.

In 1979 he received the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Prize . In 1958 he became a member of the Dutch Academy of Sciences and in 1979 an honorary member of the American Association for Cancer Research . From 1958 to 1966 he headed the Commission for Cancer Research of the Union internationale contre le cancer and for many years he headed the scientific advisory body of the Dutch Society for Combating Cancer.
