Otto von der Mark
Otto von der Mark , later Otto von der Mark, Count von Altena or Otto von Altena for short († August 14, 1262 ) was the son of Adolf I. von der Mark from his marriage to Irmgard von Geldern .
He was provost in Aachen and Maastricht . When Heinrich von Molenark founded the Fröndenberg Monastery , Otto took over the foundation and had the Fröndenberg Collegiate Church built at his own expense . The Cistercian women came from Hoven, today Zülpich . His sister Richardis became the first abbess.
After the division of the estate in 1249 Otto gave up his spiritual offices and, with the consent of his brother Engelbert I von der Mark, resided with his own court at Altena Castle . In 1250 he built the castle in a new Palas . He established a good administration and organization of offices.
