Otto von Mehringen

Otto von Mehringen (* before 1220; † 1261) was a Roman Catholic bishop and from 1251 to 1261 Bishop of Brandenburg . He belonged to the Premonstratensian Order .

Otto von Mehringen's mother is Oda von Mehringen.

Otto von Mehringen's ordination as Bishop of Brandenburg took place between May 30, 1251 and February 14, 1252. On February 13, 1258, he gave the Ascan brothers Johann I and Otto III, Margraves of Brandenburg, permission to build a Cistercian monastery based on the Lehnis model near Mariensee, south of Angermünde. After the recently decided dynastic division of the march, the monastery was to serve as a burial place for the Johannine line. A few years later the monastery was moved a few kilometers to a more suitable location in Chorin. The last written mention of Otto von Mehringen dates back to August 31, 1261. In the course of 1261 he died.

He carried a pointed oval seal. The standing bishop was in the seal field. The bishop holds a cross staff in his right hand and a crook in his left hand. The inscription reads: † OTTO DEI GRACIA BRANDEBVRGEN EPC .
