Our Lady of Angels (Pondicherry)
The Church of Our Lady of Angels ( English Our Lady of Angels Church , French Église de Notre Dame des Anges ) is a Catholic church in the southern Indian city of Puducherry (Pondicherry). The Church of Our Lady of Angels is located on Dumas Street on the corner of Surcouf Street in the French Quarter , the colonial-era district in the part of the city center on the ocean side. It is dedicated to " Our Lady of the Angels".
A predecessor to the Church of Our Lady of Angels was built in 1707 by the Capuchins inside the fortress during the French colonial period . When the British took Pondicherry in the Third Carnatic War in 1761, they destroyed the fortress and the church. The current Our Lady of Angels church dates from 1855. It represents the neo -renaissance style .
