Outlet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An outlet (English for outflow, bottom outlet, valve ) is a point of sale in the German-speaking area in which goods from collections that are no longer current, B-goods , returns from the trade or goods from overproduction are usually offered at lower prices.

Differentiation from factory sales

In contrast to the classic factory outlet , an outlet is not necessarily operated by the manufacturer of the goods. The principle has existed since the early 2000s in addition to stationary outlet sales, which have existed in Germany since the late 1970s (manufacturer factory sales) and to a larger extent since the early 1990s ( factory outlet centers ) the closed shopping community on the Internet. The term “online outlet” has become established for this and is used by a large part of the closed shopping communities.

The German Federal Court of Justice ruled on September 24, 2013 that the terms “outlet” and “factory outlet” are to be understood in the sense of a factory outlet and that goods originating from the supplier's production can be expected there, which, with the exclusion of the wholesale - and middlemen are offered particularly inexpensive.

In recent years, there has been a trend towards the term outlet being used in connection with shops that are no longer operated by the manufacturer but by third parties.

There are numerous outlet centers as well as online outlet stores.

criticism

Despite the court ruling from 2013, goods specially produced for outlets are still under criticism. In a test by the WDR in 2017, it became apparent that these goods are often not offered in normal shops and are of poor quality.
