Outside check

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The outside check is usually a visual check by the pilot or commander by means of a tour outside an aircraft. It is used before the start of an aircraft to an overview of its airworthiness.

Check

Above all, attention is paid to the free accessibility of the pitot tubes for the incoming air . Furthermore, the general condition is engines , the chassis , the tires and the entire fuselage , including wings , rudder , horizontal stabilizer , slats , flaps , passenger doors and cargo doors checked. At appropriate temperatures, it is also determined whether there is icing .

Checker

The outside check is either carried out by the flight captain himself or is delegated by him to his first officer or senior first officer. The captain then confirms fitness to fly in the logbook before take-off.

The Swiss Air Force says of itself that it is the only air force in the world that does not do the outside check; the pilots rely on the ground crew.
