Owen Island is a small island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies between Round Point and Pottinger Point just off the north coast of King George Island .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations mapped and named it in 1935. It is believed to be named after Vice-Admiral William Fitzwilliam Owen (1774-1857), a hydrograph in the Royal Navy .
