Oxford Library of African Literature

The Oxford Library of African Literature ( Oxford Library for African literature ) is an English-language scientific book series with indigenous poetry and prose of Africa , the General Editor Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard (Professor of Social Anthropology, University of Oxford and a Fellow of All Souls College ) was , and which was published by Clarendon Press , Oxford . The Africanists Wilfred Howell Whiteley (1924–1972) and Godfrey Lienhardt (1921–1993) were Assistant Editors. Each volume consists of an English translation of a text or texts of cultural value and interest, as well as an introductory essay and notes by a scholar who is familiar with the language, country and people. Attempts have been made to cover a relatively wide range of African peoples. The series was intended to cover a wide range, including texts from Ghana , Tanganyika , Northern Rhodesia , Bechuanaland and Sudan . The series appeared from 1964 through the late 1970s.
