Kępa Oksywska
Kępa Oksywska (the Oxhöfter Kämpe ( German ), kasch. Òksëwskô Kãpa ) is a cliff formation on the Gdansk Bay and is now part of the Oksywie ( Oxhöft , kasch. Òksëwié ) district of Gdynia ( Gdynia ). The lighthouse from 1877 was destroyed in 1939.

The cliff is located on the Zatoka Pucka (Putziger Wiek) in the western part of the Gdańsk Bay and is between 30 and 40 meters high.
history
For several hundred years from 1224 the area was the subject of controversy between the Zuckau and Oliva monasteries.
After the invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939, the cliff area was stubbornly defended by the Polish coastal defense group ( Grupa Obrony Wybrzeża ) until September 19 ( Bitwa o Kępę Oksywską German Battle of the Oxhöfter Kämpe, or Obrona Kępy Oksywskiej ). Only Hela could be held longer on the Baltic coast .
Six years later, since March 28, 1945, the Oxhöfter Kämpe was the last place of retreat and evacuation of the German troops as part of the Hannibal company . On 4th / 5th In April 1945, about 30,000 soldiers were evacuated from the Oxhöfter Kämpe to the Hela peninsula at the " Walpurgis Night Operation " .

There are several memorials to the Polish fallen in 1939. The area had 15,232 inhabitants in 2010 and is part of the Oksywie municipality.
