Boarding school Fredeburg (winter 1982/83)

The boarding school Fredeburg is located in Bad Fredeburg in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany , and is in the strict sense a so-called column , which means that the students attend the local public schools and live in the boarding school and are looked after there.

history

Walter Kling, founder and long-time director

After the end of the Second World War, today's boarding school in Fredeburg was founded in 1947 by the first director of the same name under the name Pädagogium Mungenas and initially also housed a privately run secondary school. In 1967 this secondary school was taken over by the then still independent city of Fredeburg. With the change in the management to Walter Kling, the name of the now independent school changed to boarding school Fredeburg. Kling sold the property and boarding school to Franz-Josef Kremer at the end of 1993, under whose direction the boarding school specialized in looking after children with ADD . The number of places was reduced from just under 120 to around 70, and support in residential groups was introduced alongside normal groups. The concept for dealing with hyperactive children is essentially based on strict structures and a rather conservative model of upbringing with mandatory church attendance, little free going out, clothing regulations, etc. The compulsory sport of fencing is also used for educational purposes. Boarding school educator and author Wolfgang Pelzer regularly publishes writings on the subject of a strongly rule-based upbringing . From October 2006, the sponsoring company "Internat Fredeburg GmbH" was initially under preliminary insolvency administration. With the start of the regular insolvency proceedings at the beginning of 2007, the boarding house manager Franz-Josef Kremer was relieved of his functions by the insolvency administrator due to financial irregularities.

The boarding school attracted national attention when, in March 2007, the boarding school director and owner of the operating company Kremer was sentenced to imprisonment for multiple child abuse and sexual abuse committed by those under protection in 2005 . In this context, it was also announced that a few years earlier, Kremer's adopted son, who was also working in the boarding school, had also been convicted of sexual assault.

Today's boarding school

In June 2007, following an agreement with the creditors, the Fredeburg boarding school was taken over by the St. Georg social welfare organization , which has continued the boarding school in its own subsidiary, Internat Bad Fredeburg gGmbH , since August 2007 .

The concept of the boarding school has been modified several times in recent years. In addition to children with Ad (H) S, the boarding school has now specialized in children with developmental delays, disorders in social behavior and emotional disorders. It is one of the few boarding schools that can show a special educational orientation. Today's concept is clearly different from the earlier rather rigid ideas about upbringing. In the model, resource-oriented support and the participation of children are emphasized as essential components of the concept. In order to protect the best interests of the child, the boarding school has committed itself to complying with the framework regulations for the prevention of sexual abuse of the German Bishops' Conference. There is also an ombudsman and opportunities for children and young people to actively participate in decisions that affect them. The care in the boarding school is supplemented by a psychosocial service that carries out or delegates therapeutic tasks itself.
