Pürglitzschanze
The Pürglitzschanze near Irdning , also called Türkenschanze , is a former field fortification from the time of the French Wars . The facility is under monument protection ( list entry ).
geography
The Pürglitzschanze is located on the western spur ridge of the Pürglitz hill south of Irdning at an altitude of 808 m above sea level. A. Immediately to the west, the Donnersbach flows into a deeply indented valley of the Enns , which runs three kilometers to the north , into which it flows there at an altitude of 650 m above sea level. About two kilometers to the east there is another well-preserved ski jump, the Reschenschanze , on a ridge above the Resch homestead .
history
Only remnants of the ditches and ramparts created between 1799 and 1802 can be seen in the approximately 0.3 hectare area covered with forest . The pentagonal structure was part of a defense system of 11 similar defunct positions that covered each other. Its exposed location made it possible to control the valley of the Donnersbach, which is about 160 meters lower, as well as to keep a wide view over the Ennstal and also over the valley of the Grimming flowing there from the north .
The site was archaeologically prospered in 2006 and protected as a ground monument of significant military historical importance. The site is freely accessible all year round and an illustrated information board gives an overview of the former fortifications.
