Püstophon was a brand name for woodwind instruments , especially clarinets , flutes and English horns , from the Hans Kreul musical instrument factory in Tübingen .

The name Püstophon comes from two instrument makers, Püchner and Stowasser, who have been employed by Hans Kreul (1918–1989) in Tübingen since the 1950s. The brand name is made up of "Pü" -chner, "Sto" -wasser and "phon". Rudolf Püchner was a cousin of Josef Püchner who had his company in Nauheim .

Püchner, Stowasser and Kreul built both German and Boehm clarinets (e.g. for musicians among the American soldiers ). In 1956 the company had 45 employees and in 1969 80% of the instruments were exported abroad. The brand name Püstophon was used until the mid-1970s. Oboes were sold under the brand name Mirafone / Miraphone.
