PAZ domain
A PAZ domain is a protein domain . PAZ-domains are about 110 amino acid - monomers long. The name is derived from the three proteins in which the domain was first found: Piwi , Argonaut and Zwille / Pinhead. The PAZ domain occurs in the Argonaute and Dicer protein families , both of which are involved in post-translational gene silencing ( PTGS - for example, post-transcriptional gene shutdown) through RNA interference ( RNAi ).
The PAZ domain contains an OB fold , which is responsible for the nucleic acid interaction of Argonaute and Dicer . The PAZ domain probably interacts with the 3 'end of the si- or miRNA ( microRNA , small RNA ).
