Raghavan Narasimhan

Raghavan Narasimhan (born August 31, 1937 in India , † October 3, 2015 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an Indian mathematician who dealt with function theory.

life and career

He attended Loyola College in Madras , where, like many other well-known Indian mathematicians, he was taught by the French Jesuit Father Racine, and received his doctorate in 1963 under K. Chandrasekharan in Bombay . In 1966/67 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton . Narasimhan was a professor at the University of Chicago .

He solved the Levi problem (after EE Levi ) for complex spaces, as well as independently Hans Grauert . He generalized the concept of pseudoconvexity to general complex spaces and characterized Stein's spaces as pseudo-complete spaces.

Narasimhan was responsible for the new edition of Bernhard Riemann's works in 1990, for which he also wrote a mathematical appraisal of Riemann's.

He is not to be confused with MS Narasimhan and Raghavan Narasimhan Iyer .
