The PCtipp is the best selling and most widely read Swiss PC magazine. It was first published as PCtip in 1994 as an IT supplement to the Zurich daily newspaper Tages-Anzeiger in cooperation with the IT specialist publisher IDG - initially once a quarter, later 10 times a year. The supplement got bigger, became independent in 1997 and was published by the IT specialist publisher IDG alone. Since the redesign on the occasion of the 10/2003 issue, the PCtipp magazine has been written (with two p ). PCtipp is now published 14 times a year - including two special issues on topics such as photography, Android or top 100 products. The magazine has a WEMF - certified edition (. Vj 48'419) of 46'034 sold or 52'157 (PY 56'535.) Spread copies, and a range of 205,000 readers ((PY 217'000.) WEMF MACH Basic 2018-II) mainly in German-speaking Switzerland, but also in German-speaking countries.

In July 2015, IDG Communications AG was taken over by the Ebner Ulm publishing group and renamed Neue Mediengesellschaft Zürich AG . She is not only publisher of PCtipp and the B2B magazine Computerworld, but also maintains the computer portals of the same name pctipp.ch, computerworld.ch and onlinepc.ch.

As before, the PCtipp deliberately does without the otherwise customary glossy paper in computer magazines; the monthly magazine is printed on normal newsprint in approximately A4 format. The contributions are practice-oriented, the somewhat more demanding «Otto normal user» is addressed as the target audience .

The articles focus on tips for Microsoft Windows , Microsoft Office , smartphones , as well as for Android or iOS and various Windows or other software; but Apple Macintosh and Linux are also taken into account. There are also tips and tricks as well as buying advice on everything to do with the Internet, e-mail and digital photography, tablets and smartphones. Finally, new product presentations, product tests and purchase aids are dealt with.

All the free software presented in the magazine is available for download on the website or is linked to the original manufacturer. PDF pages from the PCtipp archive are also sporadically offered for download.
