PE Builder is a program by Bart Lagerweij that can use a Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 CD to create a live CD or DVD that contains a bootable “mini-Windows” called BartPE .

Until about 2002 there were only DOS- based boot disks and CDs. As this only allowed limited read and write access to the NTFS file system , Bart Lagerweij developed the PE Builder to create a Windows PE- like, but extended, environment.

The PE Builder already has some plugins that can be integrated into the "Mini-Windows". In addition, you can add other plugins you have created yourself or provided by other authors for almost any software. The data created can either be burned immediately to CD / DVD or written to an ISO image that can be burned to CD / DVD with burning software . The program can also slipstream Windows CDs without a service pack into a Bart-PE CD with a service pack. To do this, the corresponding service pack must be downloaded beforehand.
