PHL03
The PHL03 (other name: Type 03 ) is a multiple rocket launcher system of the People's Republic of China , which was developed by the armaments company Norinco on the basis of the Soviet BM-30 .

The China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (CALT) developed the 10-tube multiple rocket launcher A-100 MRL with a caliber of 300 mm, which, like the PHL03 system, was very similar in appearance to the Soviet 9K58 Smertsch in the late 1990s . The A-100 was not introduced into the People's Liberation Army , but the PHL03 was introduced in 2004/05. There are the variants AR1 , AR1A , AR2 and AR3 , whereby the version probably represents the export version. The only export documented by SIPRI went to Morocco in 2009/2010 . A total of twelve vehicles (presumably starting and loading vehicles) were delivered in version AR2.
Base vehicle
The PHL03 system is based on the all- terrain WS2400 - all-wheel-drive truck (8 × 8). A horizontally and vertically swiveling turret arm with an electric or hydraulic straightening drive is installed on this. The starting containers can be loaded or replaced by a supply vehicle within a few minutes. Every vehicle should have a satellite navigation system. This achieves a minimum reaction time from full speed to the opening of the fire of around three minutes. The curb weight is 21 tons, the combat weight with 12 missiles 43 tons. Thus, a load in the form of a combat set of 12 missiles with a maximum of 22 tons is possible. A maximum speed of 60 km / h is reached on the road when fully loaded, the driving range is a maximum of 650 km. The minimum turning radius of the WS2400 is 15 meters and the maximum climbing ability is 57%. A PHL03 launch vehicle is 12 meters long, three meters wide and three meters high (with the launch arm lowered), the fording depth is 1.1 m.

On the four-axle truck is a tube package with twelve tubes of caliber mounted 300 mm. A rocket launcher is able to fire all twelve rockets within a few seconds. As a rule, a volley is fired within 38 seconds. It takes about half an hour to reload an empty launcher. A battery of four to six PHL03 systems covers a target area of around two km² with a total of 48 or 72 rockets. The coverage area of the Soviet Smertsch is smaller, but it points to a higher accuracy of the model.
