PL-7

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PL-7 is a Chinese short-range air-to-air missile .

General

The PL-7 has an infrared sensor for steering, which can independently detect its target even without information from the launch platform. Compared to its predecessors PL-2 and PL-5 , the rocket is considerably more manoeuvrable. Some sources report that the PL-7 is a replica of the French R.550 Magic . Development of the PL-7 began in 1977 and series production began in 1987. The rocket should actually have been introduced in 1982, but there were serious problems with the manufacturing quality. Starting in 2004, Bangladesh received an indefinite number of PL-7s for the F-7MG fighter aircraft from China .
