Lists on the subject

The PL-12 is a Chinese medium-range air-to-air missile with active radar control.

development

Development of the PL-12 began in the late 1990s under the designation SD-10. It became known to the public in 2001. It is believed that the missile's seeker is based on knowledge gained with the active radar-guided Soviet missiles Wympel R-27 and R-77 . The documentation of the R-27 seeker was sold to China by the Soviet Union.

The certification was completed in 2004 and since 2005 the PL-12 has been part of the inventory of the Chinese Air Force .

A further developed variant of the PL-12 is the PL-15 adapted to the J-20 with a reduced wingspan and AESA radar seeker.

description

The PL-12 is an air-to-air missile in a classic design with four trapezoidal tail control surfaces and four triangular control surfaces in the middle of the fuselage. Your active radar seeker can also work in passive mode, for example to switch to interference signals. A data link connection allows new / more precise target coordinates to be received in flight. The warhead is triggered by a proximity fuse. A solid rocket motor serves as the drive.

variants

  • SD-10 ( ShanDian-10 , 闪电 -10): Export version (SD-10A and SD-10B).
