Police sports club Stuttgart

The Polizeisportverein Stuttgart eV ( PSV Stuttgart ) is a sports club from Stuttgart with various departments. The men's table tennis team was one of the best teams in Germany in the 1960s and also attracted international attention.

The association was founded on May 4, 1929 on the initiative of police officers. Therefore, the management of the Stuttgart Police Headquarters is still responsible for the patronage.

Table tennis

The table tennis department was formed between 1930 and 1933 on the initiative of Erwin Rehm. Rolf Kammer, Franz Kramer and Erwin Zeller took care of the further development until the Second World War. The re-establishment after the war was carried out by Otto Kämpf, Gerhard Meinel and Sepp Bosler.

Erwin Lutz in particular, head of department since 1950, drove the development of table tennis. He focused on youth work, which led to the youth team becoming champions of Württemberg five times in a row. These youth players formed the basis of the men's team in the 1960s. 1961 and 1962 this was the Württemberg champion. In the German Cup championship she came third in 1962, in 1963 she won the German Cup with Elmar Stegmann , Walter Fuchs and Bernd Kurz. In 1964, the club started in the European Exhibition Cities Cup, which was held for the first time (today the ETTU Cup ). Despite the departure of Elmar Stegmann, the team Manfred Fuchs, Walter Fuchs and Walter Wörle came in second here behind local rivals DJK Sportbund Stuttgart . In 1969 PSV Stuttgart rose from the Oberliga Süd, the second highest German division.

After that, PSV Stuttgart no longer appeared in higher-class winner lists.
