PSYNDEX

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PSYNDEX is a specialist database for psychology and related areas operated by the Leibniz Center for Psychological Information and Documentation (ZPID), which contains evidence of over 250,000 documents from the German-speaking area (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Since PSYNDEX itself does not contain full texts, it falls into the category of a reference database. Use is chargeable, but is available free of charge to employees at many universities in the campus network .

Components

PSYNDEX consists of the two segments "PSYNDEX literature and AV media" , which also contains descriptions of psychological intervention programs, and "PSYNDEX tests" .

  • PSYNDEX literature and AV media segment :

It contains references with abstracts of psychological publications by authors from German-speaking countries and audiovisual media. Since it was first published in 1977, over 329,000 journal articles, books (monographs and edited works), individual articles from edited works, dissertations and institute publications have been documented. Of these, around 2,900 are descriptions of audiovisual media (such as educational films or lecture recordings), of which around 100 are added every year. (As of November 2017) Annual new entries in the field of literature are around 10,000. Subjects taken into account include psychology (including psychiatry), medicine, education, sociology, sports science, linguistics, business administration and criminology. Furthermore, PSYNDEX contains a growing number of detailed document descriptions for psychological intervention programs and clinical treatment programs (manuals). It documents scientifically sound and current intervention programs.

  • PSYNDEX Tests segment

The database segment partly contains detailed test descriptions. The aim of the PSYNDEX Tests database segment is to provide information on test procedures in the field of test diagnostics. For this purpose, tests, scales, questionnaires, interview methods, observation methods, apparatus-based test procedures, methods of computer-aided diagnostics and other diagnostic instruments from all areas of psychology and pedagogy used in German-speaking countries are described and evaluated according to a standardized grid. In June 2011, "PSYNDEX Tests" contained over 7,900 test records from the year of publication 1945 (as of November 2017), and around 200 records are added annually in two updates. Tests from the fields of psychology and pedagogy are taken into account.

Database provider

In addition to the ZPID (as a facet in the psychology search portal PubPsych ), which focuses on the individual end user, the following providers also provide access to PSYNDEX, although different target groups are to be addressed:

PSYNDEX can also be researched via the medical information portal livivo .
