Lists on the subject

The PTM-3 is a remote-deployable anti- tank mine made in Russia.

description

The PTM-3 was introduced to the Soviet armed forces in the early 1990s . It replaced the PTM-1 mine there , which dates from the late 1970s. The PTM-3 has a metal mine body with an elongated shape. On the front side there is a cylindrical metal cap as a detonator cover. There is an elongated shaped charge on each of the four long sides. The mine can sand color, green, olive-green, gray-green, yellow-gray or brown and be executed by the VT-06 - Magneto triggered or self-destruction.

Use and function

One refill is housed in a KPTM-3 cassette. The cartridge has an ejector charge for the mine and is remotely deployed by vehicles, helicopters or missile artillery. After ejection from the cassette, the mine automatically unlocks itself after 60 seconds and the VT-06 magneto is activated. The mine also has anti-lift protection: if the position angle of the mine is changed by 3–7 °, it detonates immediately. If the mine is not triggered by external influences, the detonator is activated after 24 hours at the latest due to the insufficient battery voltage. If the detonation is to take place earlier, the detonator is activated by a short circuit at a preselected time (min. 1 hour) .

The Ukrainian Armed Forces defused Russian PTM-3 mines in 2015 during the war in Ukraine in the Svitlodarsk region , whose power station was supposed to supply the region with electricity.

Deployment systems

  • PKM: Laying container with 6 KPTM-3 cassettes with a throw of 20 to 50 meters; Can be used by a single soldier.
  • UMZ: Laying system with 180 cassettes for use from a vehicle. Throwing range 60–80 meters.
  • VSM-1: Laying system with 116 cassettes for use by helicopter.
  • 9M22K2 rocket: with 3 mines for use with the 9K51 Grad rocket launcher .
  • 9M59 missile: with 9 mines for use with the 9K57 Uragan .
  • 9M55K4 and 9M527 missiles: with 25 mines for use with the 9K58 Smertsch .
