Pablo Morillo
Pablo Morillo y Morillo , Count of Cartagena and Duke of La Puerta, (born May 5, 1775 in Fuentesecas, Zamora, Spain, † July 27, 1837 in Barèges , France) was a Spanish general . He fought on the side of the Spanish Empire in the Wars of Independence.
From August 22, 1815, Morillo besieged the city of Cartagena, which was surrounded with walls. On December 6th, his troops marched into the city. Then Morillo returned to Venezuela to continue the fight against the independence fighters. At the execution of the natural scientist and freedom hero Francisco José de Caldas , Pablo Morillo is said to have responded when the bystanders asked for the life of the scholar: "España no necesita sabios" - Spain does not need any scholars. In June 1820, he ordered that all people must recognize the Cadiz Constitution. He sent envoys to Bolívar. Morillo and Bolívar met in Santa Ana and signed a peace treaty for six months and then another one called war regularization.
