Pacific Forum Line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pacific Forum Line (PFL) is a shipping alliance of the Pacific Islands Forum based in Auckland , New Zealand .

Companies

The company was founded in 1978 by 12  Pacific Forum countries as a kind of shipping alliance and has since served to secure maritime trade services in the Pacific region and to promote economic development in the Pacific . Their establishment became necessary because, with the ever-increasing spread of containers, fewer and fewer cargo ships called at the small states of the South Pacific. The company not only serves to generate profits , but also to promote regional development.

In 2012, the New Zealand government held 23.1% of the shares in the Samoa- registered company , but only 8.3% of the voting rights, as the votes were evenly distributed among the 12 member states of the South Pacific Forum.

With a rejuvenated service network, the Pacific Forum Line , managed by Neptune Pacific Line as of 2018, covers Samoa , Tonga , Cook Islands , Fiji and Papua New Guinea .

Ships

In 2018 the company still operated six ships, the Capitaine Cook , the Capitaine Dampier , the Capitaine Tasman , the Southern Lily , the Micronesian Pride and the Forum Samoa 4 .
