Pagasitic Gulf

The Pagasitic Gulf ( Greek Παγασητικός κόλπος , Pagasitikos kolpos ), also Pagasean Gulf , Gulf of Pagasai or Gulf of Volos , is a bay in the Aegean Sea . It is located in the Greek region of Thessaly and is separated from the rest of the Aegean Sea to the east by the Pelion peninsula . The Pagasean Gulf is about 150 km northwest of Athens , has a diameter of 20 to 30 kilometers and is surrounded by the Greek landscape of Magnisia . The gulf is connected to the Aegean Sea by the Strait of Trikeri in the south, the only larger island in the water is Paleo Trikeri . The most important ancient cities were Phylake , Thebes , Iolkos and Halos ; today the port city of Volos is the most important.
