history

In 1896 Christian Tischhauser opened a stationery shop in Werdenberg in north-eastern Switzerland , to which he also affiliated a mail order business a short time later. From 1914 the company produced its own labels. In 1937 the company specialized in the manufacture of labels. In 1949 the private company was converted into Papierhof AG , which at that time had 60 employees and an annual turnover of 480,000 francs. In 1950 label printing machines from an English manufacturer were added to the range. Through the increased use of self-adhesive labels , the business could be expanded further in the sixties. In 1967 Papierhof employed 140 people and generated sales of five million francs.

In 1976 the company opened a sales office in Austria, followed by a second plant in Germany in 1978. In 1986, Papierhof AG was converted into Pago AG (the name was derived from the original abbreviation for Papierhof AG , PAG, supplemented by the letter O for Eastern Switzerland). In the nineties further plants were founded in England (1991), France (1991), Italy (1997) and Romania (1998). All plants, with the exception of the plant in Rodigo Italy and Germany Aichtal, were closed.

In 2012 the company was sold to Fuji Seal. The Fuji Seal Group is also a label manufacturer specializing in sleeves.

After this takeover, it was practically all downhill. The company is constantly losing money and laying off employees. The corona crisis gave Pago AG the rest. In May 2020, the management of Pago AG decided to outsource mechanical engineering to Germany and, accordingly, to lay off more than 30 employees.

activity

Pago generates around 75 percent of its sales with labels, the remaining 25 percent comes from labeling machines.

Customers include manufacturers of personal care and pharmaceutical products, foodstuffs, cleaning and chemical products for which Pago produces labels for product decoration. These are predominantly self-adhesive labels, and to a lesser extent non-self-adhesive labels (e.g. for bottles and cans). In addition, functional labels such as sealed, reclosable or multi-pack labels are produced. The labels are delivered to the manufacturers in rolls, who then apply them to their products using the appropriate labeling machines.

All common printing processes - digital printing , letterpress printing , screen printing , offset printing , flexographic printing and gravure printing as well as combinations thereof - are used for label printing .

In addition to pure labeling machines, Pago offers complete system solutions for the logistical labeling of pallets and boxes. This also includes systems based on RFID .

Other works

The largest plant is that in Germany. The plant in Italy makes a relatively small contribution in contrast to the sibling plants.
