Christel Hopf

Christel Hopf (* as Christel Dietze , October 27, 1942 in Hamburg ; † July 23, 2008 in Berlin ) was a German sociologist.

Her areas of work were educational sociology and socialization research, authoritarianism and right-wing extremism research , organizational sociology and qualitative methods of empirical social research.

Life

After studying sociology in Hamburg and at the Free University of Berlin (diploma in 1969, doctorate in 1973), she worked at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin from 1974 to 1989 , from where she completed her habilitation in 1982 at the FU and was appointed professor at the University of Hildesheim in 1989, where she retired in 2007.

She worked on the board of the German Society for Sociology , where she made a special contribution to the common “ethical code” of the German sociological professional societies and helped found the “Qualitative Methods in Social Research” section. She was also active in various committees of the German Research Foundation , the Hans Böckler Foundation and other research funding institutions.

She was married to Wulf Hopf .
