The Palacio Paz is a former stately home in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . The Palacio is located in Plaza General San Martín , in the Retiro district .

Today it houses the Círculo Militar , an officers' association, and the Museo de Armas de la Nación , the national arms museum. The museum is open to the public, the Palacio itself can be visited on guided tours.

The structure was built between 1902 and 1914 by the French architect Louis Sortais . The client was José C. Paz , the owner of the daily La Prensa. The building was constructed entirely from French materials imported to Argentina for this purpose. The Palacio Paz has been the seat of the officers' association since 1938. Their cultural foundation maintains the building as a museum, which is also a venue for readings, exhibitions and concerts.

National Museum of Arms

The Palacio Paz also houses the National Arms Museum. It is Argentina's premier weapons museum and opened in 1941. The collection is displayed chronologically and according to origin in the 15 rooms. The oldest pieces include chain armor that belonged to a Byzantine emperor , a crossbow, clubs and swords. You can also see many banners and weapons from the Revolutionary Wars and modern artillery .
