The office building of Pressburg County was previously on the site of the current building . This was owned by the influential Pálffy family since 1715 . After the county administration had moved, Count Johann Pálffy had a new building designed and built by the architect Viktor Rumpelmayer in 1885. During the renovation work, which lasted from 1981 to 1987, the partially preserved foundation from the 13th and 14th centuries was discovered and preserved. Since 1988 the Palais Johann Pálffy has housed part of the art collection of the Municipal Gallery .
