The Palais Königswarter in Vienna is a palace in the style of the Ringstrasse . It was built in 1862 at Kärntner Ring 4 in the 1st district of Vienna diagonally across from the Vienna State Opera . During this time, buildings were erected for the first time on the Kärntner Ring, which was newly laid out after the city walls were torn down.

The client was the banker Jonas von Königswarter . The palace was designed by August Schwendenwein and Johann Romano . Königswarter, who was knighted in 1860, was given the rank of baron by the emperor in 1870, one year before his death.

From 1890 to 1940, actress Katharina Schratt , friend of Emperor Franz Joseph I, lived on the third floor of the Palais . Her husband, Miklos Baron Kiss de Ittebe, who died in 1909 and from whom she lived, bought the Palais in 1907 and bequeathed it to her.
