Death Palace
The Palais Todesco is a prestigious building in Vienna . It is located at Kärntner Straße 51 opposite the opera house , where the old Kärntner Tor used to stand and was built there from 1861 to 1864 by the architects Ludwig Förster (1797–1863) and inside by Theophil von Hansen (1813–1891) for Built by Baron Eduard von Todesco . The Jewish families Todesco and von Lieben, who were persecuted by the Nazis after the Anschluss in 1938, lived in the palace. The palace had already been sold in 1935 to the "Insurance Company of the Austrian Federal States, Versicherungs AG" (today: Uniqa Insurance Group ).
At the time of the monarchy, the imperial purveyor P. & C. Habig had a branch on the ground floor. From 1947 to 1993 the headquarters of the Austrian People's Party was located in Palais Todesco .
