The Ugarte Palace is a building on Horní náměsti (German: Upper Square ) in the city of Znojmo (Znaim) in the Czech Republic .

history

The Palais Ugarte was originally built as a one-storey Renaissance building with a spacious measure house in the second half of the 16th century. From the bourgeois family Peter Wallin the house was initially acquired by the city and sold in 1680 to the gentlemen de Souches, who lived in Jevišovice . They had the palace rebuilt in baroque style with a particularly eye-catching portal. The second floor was not built until the second half of the 19th century. After the de Souches family died out in 1736, the Jevišovice rulership, together with the Znojmo Palace, became the property of the Counts of Ugarte .

In November 1805, Napoleon Bonaparte stayed here for two nights. A plaque on the facade of the Palais Ugarte commemorates this event and the name of the Napoleon restaurant in the house also refers to it.
