Palais de Justice (Bordeaux)
The Palace of Justice of Bordeaux is a multi-epoch courthouse with a spectacular addition by Richard Rogers from the end of the 20th century.
history
Instead of the Fort du Hâ from the middle of the 15th century, a court and prison building was built according to plans by the architect Joseph-Adolphe Thiac (1839–1846). A small part of the old fortress was preserved. The classical main facade based on the model of the Temple of Aphaia , the monumental peristyle and the large flight of stairs correspond to the conceptions of contemporary architecture . Four sculptures adorn the austere building, created by Dominique Fortuné Maggesi : Montesquieu , Michel de L'Hospital , Malesherbes and Henri François d'Aguesseau .
The extension from 1998 is very different. Richard Rogers' architecture playfully and ironically quotes technical elements of wine production, the glass facade is supposed to symbolize the transparency of the judiciary.
