Palazzo Grandiben Negri is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Sestiere Castello overlooking the Rio de la Ca 'di Dio next to the Palazzo Erizzo a San Martino .

history

The construction of the palace was commissioned by Nicolò Grandiben from the non-noble Grandiben family of equestrians . The son of Melchiore Grandiben , a 15th century merchant, was the Doge's secretary . In 1478 he traveled to Brescia to ask Lorenzo Zane , Patriarch of Antioch and Bishop of Brescia, who had betrayed political secrets to the Pope, to appear in court and explain himself. In his will of August 8, 1490, he left the house and its contents to his son Girolamo Grandiben , also secretary of the Doge, with the exception of part of the fountain with columns and marble table , which he gave to the Church of San Martino to build a baptistery in memory the family bequeathed. This baptistery was once housed in a chapel of the former Church of San Daniele , which was destroyed in 1839. In 1630 the palace fell to the Negri family , to whom Diana , the daughter of Girolamo Grandiben , married. Francesco Negri (1769–1827), a well-known writer, was born here. Today the palace is a tenement house.

description

The four-storey building is connected to the Palazzo Erizzo a San Martino on the right by a passage on the main floor that spans the Calle Erizzo immediately behind the Ponte Erizzo over the Rio della Ca 'di Dio . On the ground floor, in the middle of the facade, there is an arched portal to the water, flanked by two arched windows on the left and one on the right. On the far right, in the area of the bridge, another arched portal is cut into the facade. On the mezzanine floor above, two arched windows with half-columns and a circular space above each flank the portal to the water. To the left of this there are two more, larger rectangular windows. Above the portal on the right, a marble plaque, surrounded by three rounds, is embedded in the facade. The mezzanine floor ends with a cornice . The main floor has a five-ply arched keel window in the middle , the individual elements of which are separated by half-columns. Each window element has a round above the keel arch, the entire five-fold window with rounds sits in a rectangular frame and the middle three window elements are provided with a shared, protruding balcony with iron grating. A pair of individual windows of the same design are attached to both sides of the five-fold window, each in turn provided with a round, but with walled-in keel arches and without a frame or balcony. Between these pairs of windows there is a further marble slab with a round blank above. Above, between the circular blanks of the individual windows, another large marble slab is inserted into the facade. The mezzanine floor under the roof shows a simply designed five-fold arched window, flanked by two pairs of similar single windows. At the top, the facade closes with a serrated eaves . The facade is plastered and painted yellowish-white.
