Palazzo Erizzo a San Martino
Palazzo Erizzo a San Martino is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Sestiere Castello with a view of the Rio della Ca 'di Dio , opposite the Church of San Martino .
history
The 17th century palace is a reconstruction of the previous Palazzo Erizzo, where the Erizzo di San Martino family , members of the Venetian patriciate, lived. The reconstruction is connected with the election of a member of the house as Doge in 1631; an unknown architect from the school of Baldassare Longhena (who was called Mattia Carneri ) was commissioned with the work.
The family died out in the 19th century; the palace changed hands and is still used today as a private residence.
description
The Palazzo Erizzo a San Martino consists of a ground floor, a main floor and two mezzanine floors , one above the ground floor and one under the roof. The facade, which extends over four floors, is asymmetrical and rich in windows. The most important of these is the multiple arched window on the main floor with six mascarons on the keystones and balusters , offset to the left from the central axis of the palace, in correspondence with the portal to the water, which also has a rounded arch.
The interior of the palace is remembered above all because there are frescoes by Jacopo Guarana on its walls .
