Palazzo Querini Benzon

Palazzo Querini Benzon , also Palazzo Benzon , is a palace in Venice in the Italian region of Veneto . It is located in the San Marco sestiere overlooking the Grand Canal between the small Ca 'de Sprit and the Ca' Michiel . Opposite are the Palazzo Bernardo di Canal and the Palazzo Querini Dubois .

history

The palace was built in the first years of the 18th century and became famous thanks to the noblewoman Marina Querini (1757–1839), wife of Pietro Giovanni Benzon , who made her home at the end of the Republic of Venice (1797) the most prestigious Venetian literary salons attended by many important contemporary artists.

description

The building with no particular architectural value has a portal to the water with a staircase, a main floor with quadruple arched windows and two pairs of single windows, all with a small balcony. The second floor was added in 1897 as a simpler and less valuable copy of the main floor. Above the eaves is a terrace with balusters in the middle . The entire facade is plastered and painted, with the exception of the ground floor, which was clad in stone, without the mezzanine floor .
