Palazzo di Malta

The Palazzo di Malta in Rome , also known as the Palazzo Magistrale or Palazzo dell'Ordine di Malta , has been one of the two headquarters of the Sovereign Order of Malta since 1834 . It is located in Via dei Condotti 68 and has had extraterritorial status since 1869 . The second headquarters is the Villa del Priorato di Malta on the Aventine at Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta 4.

The Order of Malta received the palace in 1629 from Antonio Bosio , a Roman scholar. Since 1834 it has been the government building of the Order of Malta. The building housed the Order of Malta's embassy to the Holy See until 1834 . Today, large parts of the government and administration of the Order, including the seat of the Grand Master of the Order , are located in the building.

Building history

The Palazzo di Malta was built from ashlar in the 17th century and has a cornice . Between 1889 and 1894 the building was renovated and rebuilt. In the courtyard there is a pavement with a large Maltese cross.
