Pallag

Pallag is the name of a northeastern part of the Hungarian city ​​of Debrecen , founded in 1210 . Debrecen is the second largest Hungarian city and the capital of the Hungarian Northern Great Plain with about 201,432 inhabitants as of January 1, 2019. The city is located in the eastern part of Hungary, about 30 kilometers west of the border with Romania .

history

Pallag, originally "Parlag", is mentioned as a village in a written document from 1210. It was abandoned around 1660 and Debrecen pledged it. Until the 1850s there was a water tower in the village called Lord's Hill. Pallag borders a nature reserve with around 90 hectares of forest.

Attractions

In Pallag there are the ruins of the Pallag village monastery from the Arpaden period in the 12th century, as well as the "Balásházy" agricultural school in the center, in the building of the former Royal Economic Academy. The Hungarian writer and poet Albert Wass attended this academy. The fairy garden (Tündérkert in Hungarian), which was built on the model of a "fairy village" as a holiday and recreation facility with old stone and wooden buildings, the Nagyerdei football stadium of the Debreceni VSC team and the Debrecen International School are also located in Debrecen-Pallag.
