Pallas (warrior)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pallas ( Greek  Παλλάς, -άδος ) is a figure from Greek mythology . She was the daughter of the sea god Triton and an unknown mother. Pallas and the goddess Athena , a daughter of Zeus , were raised together by Triton.

When Pallas and Athene fought each other playing with sword and shield, Zeus was afraid for his daughter Athene and held the Aigis , a shield made of goatskin, in front of Pallas. This was so shocked that she noticed Athena's sword strike too late and was fatally wounded.

Athena was so sad about the death of her companion that from now on she put Pallas' name in front of her own and called herself only Pallas Athene . She also created a statue of her friend, the so-called Palladion . With Athene's permission, Zeus later brought the Palladion to Troy at the time of the Trojan War . It was supposed to indicate that the city was under his and Athena's protection. In fact, Troy was not conquered until Odysseus and Diomedes managed to secretly steal the Palladion from Troy during the Trojan War.
