Pan-green coalition
The Pan-Green Coalition ( Chinese 泛綠 聯盟 / 泛绿 联盟 , Pinyin Fànlǜ Liánméng ) or the Pan-Green Camp ( Chinese 泛綠 陣營 / 泛绿 阵营 , Pinyin Fànlǜ Zhènyíng ) is an informal coalition of parties in the Republic of China on Taiwan , consisting of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the Taiwan Solidarity Union (TSU) and the smaller Taiwan Independence Party (TAIP). The name of the coalition comes from the green flag of the DPP. In contrast to the pan-blue coalition , the pan-green coalition supports Taiwan's formal independence. However, there are right and left wings in both coalitions, so that in the pan-green coalition the TSU describes itself as "light brown", which is supposed to be a radicalization of the green.
The pan-green coalition was formed as a result of the 2000 presidential election in which Lee Teng-hui was expelled from the KMT and founded his own party - the TSU.
In the election for the legislative yuan on January 12, 2008, the Pan-Green coalition suffered a heavy defeat against the opposition Pan-Blue coalition.
The Taiwan Green Party is not part of the pan-green coalition.
