Panagaeus is a genus from the family of ground beetles (Carabidae).

features

The body is black, the wing covers red with a black cross-markings, the eyes protrude telescopically like on a base due to a stronger constriction of the temples. The paraglossa do not rise above the ligula . In the males, the first and second forelegs are moderately dilated. There is a hairbrush underneath.

Systematics

The genus is divided into two sub-genera and at least 15 species. These occur in the Holarctic and the Neotropical . There are 3 species in the Nearctic . In Central Europe, the genus is represented by two species ( two-spot and swamp cross-runner ).
