The Panama caecum ( Oscaecilia ochrocephala ) is a fairly large burrowing caecum.
features
This caecum grows up to 60 cm long and has a slender head with a wedge-shaped snout.
Occurrence
The Panama caecum only lives in eastern Panama and northern Colombia and inhabits the tropical forests of these regions.
Way of life
This species of Oscaecilia spends most of its life in moist soil and usually only comes out when it's washed out by heavy rainfall. It digs passages and eats earthworms and insects that it encounters. Their main enemies are snakes , which invade their tunnels to eat the caecilians. Almost nothing is known about reproduction , but it is believed that this species lays eggs.
