Panic snap
A panic hook is a lock that, in contrast to the snap hook , can still be opened easily even under strong pull. It is used in agriculture and equestrian sports as a safety instrument, e.g. B. used when leading horses. For example, if a horse is afraid, you can open the panic hook in an emergency and release the horse with it. Furthermore, a panic hook is used in Canicross for quick disconnection .
Use in BDSM
Panic hooks are also used regularly in the field of BDSM . In particular in the event of a circulatory collapse of one of the parties involved, they ensure that the corresponding connection can be opened with one movement at any time, even under high tensile loads (for example the dead weight of the bottom ).
rating
Their use is highly controversial. Equestrian panic hooks are not intended for vertical loads. Jay Wiseman , author of various BDSM books, speaks out against its use. If a connection is to be made that can be separated or released under load, he recommends using pulley blocks, improvised pulley blocks or snap shackles from sailing.
