Lists on the subject

The anti-tank mine 88 (Pzaw Mi 88) is an anti-tank mine of the Swiss Army .

development

The mine is a license production of the French mine HPD F2 . It was developed in the 1980s at Daimler-Chrysler and Thomson-CSF (now Thales ). Production for the Swiss Army took place in the Altdorf ammunition factory . In 1988 the HPD F2 was introduced to the Swiss Army under the designation Panzerabwehrmine 88 (Pzaw Mi 88) . It largely replaced anti-tank mine 60 there . The mine has the ammunition identification number (ALN) 591-3890. The mine is also produced in France , Belgium and Norway .

description

The mine can be laid open in the field, in the water or with an earth covering. Once installed, it will be armed after a delay of 10 minutes. The mine has now activated its seismic sensor. This reacts to vibrations that are generated by vehicles. If such vibrations are perceived by this sensor, the magneto is activated. This reacts to changes in the magnetic field. This means that no direct pressure on the lead is required. As soon as a certain mass of metal is above the mine, it detonates. The projectile-forming charge thus acts on the entire underside of the vehicle. Due to the Munroe effect , it has a penetration capacity of 100 to 150 mm armor steel . The electromagnetic detonator can also be triggered by the metal detectors of mine detectors . The mine also has anti-lift protection: if the mine is moved or the position angle is changed, it detonates immediately. If the mine is not triggered by external influences, it will be neutralized after 30 days at the latest. To make it easier to find, a telescopic tube is extended from the top of the mine .
