Design and history
In June 2011 a committee was established to erect a monument to Paoli. Nathalie Risterucci was the chairman, Ange Pantaloni was the deputy. With a total budget of € 80,000, a bronze bust representing Paoli, 1.4 meters high and weighing 380 kilograms, was created in 2012 . It was created in Joël Vergne's workshop and manufactured in the Blanchet-Lamdowski foundry . The bust rests on a block of white Carrara marble weighing 2,400 kilograms . Overall, the monument reaches a size of 3.10 meters.
On the front of the base there is an inscription in French and Corsican under the name and dates of life PASCAL PAOLI 1725-1807 . It is a quote from Paoli, selected by the committee together with Mayor Ajaccios Simon Renucci :
"L'égalité ne doit pas
être un vain mot"
"A parità un deve essa
parolla vana"
( German for example: equality must not be an empty word )
