Zacchia was the personal physician of Popes Innocent X and Alexander VII and legal advisor to the Rota Romana . He is best known as the founder of modern forensic medicine . His work Quaestiones medico-legales ( medical law issues , 1621–1650), originally 7 volumes and later expanded to 9 volumes, is the first systematic manual of forensic medicine and is still one of the most important texts in this field.
