Papa Charlie McCoy
Charles "Papa Charlie" McCoy (born May 26, 1909 in Jackson , Mississippi , † July 26, 1950 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American blues guitarist, singer and mandolin player. He was the younger brother of Kansas Joe McCoy .
Charles McCoy was known as "Papa Charlie". He performed in his home area with his band Mississippi Hot Footers . He accompanied Tommy Johnson and played for the Mississippi Sheiks . McCoy moved to Chicago, where he had two bands, Papa Charlie's Boys and the Harlem Hamfats with his brother Joe . He also played in Memphis' band Minnie . In the Second World War, McCoy was drafted into the army. After that, his health was compromised and finally died in 1950, just a few months after his brother.
